Using the image of having to clear away the rubbish that Philistines used to plug Israelite wells, Martin Lloyd-Jones describes how the New Testament church, too, often needs to “clear the rubbish” in order to get to vital water. This process he refers to as biblical revival, and remains sound advice for churches — and a Church — that finds itself lethargic and lacking vitality.
